The note underneath says it was annulled by the judgment of 8 November 2018 of the General Court of the European Union in Case T-544/13 RENV, Dyson Ltd v European Commission.
The reason the court gave matters more than the outcome. The label's test measured a vacuum with an empty dust container, and the court held that this does not reflect conditions as close as possible to actual use, because a vacuum that is full behaves nothing like a vacuum that is empty. The regulation went, and nothing replaced it.
What that leaves you holding
With no regulated test, a pascal figure is a number a manufacturer generates however it wants: a sealed laboratory rig, a turbo mode the machine can hold for a few minutes, a measurement point of the maker's choosing. Two robots advertising the same figure are not measured the same way, and there is no authority anywhere that says they have to be.
The rule to take away, which you can check on any listing in ten seconds: a suction figure on a robot vacuum is not comparable with any other suction figure, because since 2018 nobody has been required to measure it the same way. Compare the things that are described rather than measured: how it navigates, whether the brush resists hair, whether the mop lifts on carpet, and what the base does when the robot goes home.
You will still see the number everywhere, and it is not useless: above roughly 5,000 pascals, in a machine of this shape, the brush, the mop and the navigation decide the result long before the fan does. A machine that reaches every corner with 8,000 pascals cleans more of your floor than one advertising 15,000 that misses half the rooms. That is why the section below comes before the comparison table.
LiDAR or gyroscope: the one specification that decides whether it cleans or wanders
A laser builds a real map of your home: it cleans room by room, does not repeat passes, and lets you draw no-go zones in the app. A gyroscopic robot moves in a blind zigzag: in a small, uncluttered flat it copes; in a larger home, or one with furniture, it loses track and leaves patches. This is the specification that separates a robot that cleans from a robot that goes around in circles.

A robot with a laser or a camera builds a floor plan of where you live and sends it to a server. In the UK that is personal data, the regulator is the Information Commissioner's Office, and since June 2026 the ICO has published finalised guidance covering exactly this class of product.
The map is the point of the machine, so this is not an argument against buying one. It is an argument for knowing what you are agreeing to. A LiDAR robot knows the shape of every room, where the furniture stands and, over time, when the house is empty. The app that draws that map for you also stores it somewhere that is not your house.
The ICO's guidance for consumer connected products, finalised in June 2026, sets out what makers are expected to do: protective settings switched on by default rather than buried in a menu, collection limited to what the service actually needs, consent that is a clear opt-in and as easy to withdraw as it was to give, and security treated as an ongoing obligation rather than a launch-day feature. That gives you a checklist for the app on day one.
The picks, one at a time

Room-by-room mapping, no-go zones you draw yourself, per-room schedules and the anti-tangle system the brand built its reputation on. It is the machine that needs the least justification: nothing here does the basics better, and everything that beats it does so by adding a station rather than by cleaning better.

The station is what you are buying. It empties the robot's bin into a bag, and then it washes the mop pads and dries them, which is the step that decides whether a mop stays usable or starts to smell after a fortnight. Everything else here that mops leaves you a damp pad in a dock.

The only robot at this level here with genuine laser navigation: everything sold alongside it moves blind. It sweeps, vacuums and drags a damp pad. Cecotec is a Spanish manufacturer whose machines are widely sold across Europe, and the practical consequence is that its consumables are easy to source rather than being a specialist order.

In the UK, Roomba is still the word people use for the whole category, and there is a real reason to buy one: iRobot builds robustly and its parts are the easiest to find of any brand here, years after purchase. What you should understand before you order is that this model navigates with sensors rather than a laser, so it does not build the room-by-room map the roborock and the Dreame do, and its headline 15,000 pascals is the highest figure on this page and, for the reason at the top, is not comparable with any of the others.
