Best fitness tracker 2026: seven bands compared on real battery life, sleep accuracy and hidden fees

The best fitness trackers of 2026: a fitness band worn on the wrist outdoors

Seven fitness trackers compared against the figures their makers publish, with the table the boxes do not carry: claimed battery life against typical real use. Plus a 30-second test that tells you whether you want a band at all, and the honest answer on Whoop, which you rent rather than buy.

SEVEN BANDS, CHECKED AGAINST THEIR OWN SPEC SHEETS
the best fitness tracker of 2026

The best fitness trackers of 2026 are the Xiaomi Smart Band 10 (the default buy), the Huawei Band 11 (the one that measures sleep best) and the Smart Band 9 Active (the cheapest that still does the job). All of them run for weeks on a charge, and none of them charges you a monthly fee.

Before you buy: watch out for zombie lists

A good share of the "best fitness trackers 2026" lists competing with this one still recommend models from 2021 to 2023 (Mi Band 6, Fitbit Charge 5, Amazfit Band 5 and friends) with the date touched up. The problem is not theoretical: you pay the same for three generations fewer of sensors, and some of those models no longer have official stock anywhere. Every band on this page is a current model that its manufacturer still lists. If a list recommends something you cannot find on the maker's own site, that is your answer.

Claimed battery against real use: the table the boxes do not carry

The "21 days" on the box is measured in a lab: screen off nearly all the time, no notifications and no workouts. Below is the figure that actually matters, the one for typical use, put together by crossing each manufacturer's spec sheet with published reviews and the reported experience of buyers. These are not measurements of ours, and we say so rather than dress them up as a test:

ModelClaimedTypical real use (always-on display and notifications)The honest reading
Xiaomi Smart Band 1021 days8 to 12 daysOutstanding all the same
Smart Band 10 Pro21 days7 to 10 daysGPS shortens the long outings
Huawei Band 1114 days7 to 9 daysFair for what it measures
Galaxy Fit313 days6 to 9 daysDoes the job
Fitbit Inspire 310 days5 to 7 daysTight if you sleep in it
Garmin Vivosmart 57 days4 to 6 daysThe price of serious metrics

The useful conclusion: any of them lasts weeks where a smartwatch lasts days. If battery is your number one reason for choosing a band over a watch, you have already decided well, and the difference between models matters far less than the band-versus-watch jump itself.

Fitness tracker or smartwatch? The 30-second test

This is the question that causes the most returns, so answer it before you look at anything else. Tap what matters most to you and we will tell you what to buy, and if your answer is "a watch", we take you to the right guide instead of selling you a band that does not fit:

The 7 fitness trackers, with their flaws

Xiaomi Smart Band 10 review 2026
#1 · The default buy

Xiaomi Smart Band 10Amazon

m8d pick · Best for almost everyone
✓ 60 Hz AMOLED: it moves like a band costing several times as much✓ 150 or more sport modes, 5 ATM, and the Mi Fitness app with no subscription✗ Detailed sleep analysis is its weak point (Huawei is sharper there)✗ No GPS of its own: your phone supplies the route
What using it is actually like: the tenth generation has tidied up the clasp and the strap compared with the 8 and the 9 (less of the loose-clip feeling), but it is still a proprietary strap: the ones from the Band 8 and 9 do not fit. Budget for a spare strap if you like changing them, and note that they are cheap.

Huawei Band 11 sleep tracking review 2026
#2 · The one that measures best (new for 2026)

Huawei Band 11Amazon

m8d pick · Best sleep and health tracking at band money
✓ Sleep with overnight heart rate variability, the figure expensive watches use to score recovery✓ 1,500 nits: readable in full summer sun✗ It wants the Huawei Health app, which is one more ecosystem to keep✗ No GPS of its own, and contactless payments depend on your country and your card
What using it is actually like: in published comparisons, Huawei's Band series detects short awakenings better than Xiaomi's Smart Band, which tends to log them as light sleep. If you are buying the band FOR sleep, that is the tie-breaker.

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 Active budget fitness tracker
#3 · The cheapest that still does the job

Xiaomi Smart Band 9 ActiveAmazon

m8d pick · First wearable, or a gift that cannot go wrong
✓ Steps, heart rate, sleep and 18 claimed days at the bottom of the ladder✓ 5 ATM: the shower and the pool without thinking about it✗ TFT screen: in full sun it is only adequate✗ No AMOLED, no NFC, no flourishes, and it does not pretend otherwise
What using it is actually like: this is THE band for older relatives and for children: few functions to poke at, a battery you forget about, and a price that does not hurt if it gets lost. As a first wearable bought to find out whether you will even wear one, nothing else comes close.

Xiaomi Smart Band 10 Pro with built-in GPS
Built-in GPS · new for 2026

Xiaomi Smart Band 10 ProAmazon

m8d pick · Running and riding without a phone
✓ Its own GNSS: it records the route with the phone left at home✓ A 1.74-inch screen, close to watch size, plus an improved sleep algorithm✗ At this money it brushes against smartwatch territory, so use the test above✗ With GPS running, forget the 21 days
What using it is actually like: built-in GPS was THE feature that separated bands from watches. That it has come down to band format is the real news of this generation. If you run three or more days a week without a phone, it pays for itself against the alternative of buying a watch.

Samsung Galaxy Fit3 fitness tracker for Samsung phones
For Samsung phones

Samsung Galaxy Fit3Amazon

m8d pick · The Samsung Health integration
✓ A large 40 mm AMOLED screen and an aluminium body✓ Everything lands in Samsung Health by itself if your phone is a Samsung✗ Android only: it does NOT work with an iPhone✗ Outside the Samsung ecosystem it loses its whole advantage
What using it is actually like: watch the colour when you buy. The listings for the rose gold and the black are often several steps apart on price for identical hardware, depending on the seller. If the colour makes no difference to you, that is a quiet saving nobody points out.

Fitbit Inspire 3, the fitness tracker with the simplest app
The simplest app (iPhone friendly)

Fitbit Inspire 3Amazon

m8d pick · For anyone who wants ZERO friction
✓ The clearest app on the market, and it behaves properly with an iPhone✓ Extremely light, discreet, 10 claimed days✗ The small print: advanced metrics (detailed sleep, readiness) sit behind the paid Fitbit Premium, which is what Xiaomi and Huawei hand you for nothing✗ Small screen
What using it is actually like: if you are coming from measuring nothing at all and you want it to just work, especially on an iPhone where Xiaomi and Huawei sync less smoothly, the Inspire 3 is the one people abandon least. Go in knowing about Premium.

Garmin Vivosmart 5, a training band with no subscription
Serious training, no fees

Garmin Vivosmart 5Amazon

m8d pick · Athlete metrics in band format
✓ Body Battery, training load and Garmin sleep, with the Connect app FREE for life✓ Safety features, including incident detection✗ A small monochrome OLED screen✗ 7 claimed days: the shortest battery of the line-up
What using it is actually like: be careful with this model in particular. Amazon is full of refurbished units listed a good deal below the new one, and they do not always say so at first glance. The link here is the new unit. Check the condition line on any listing before you press buy.

Whoop: why it is not on this list (and the alternative without a subscription)

If you arrived here looking for Whoop, the screenless band worn by athletes and chief executives, the short answer is that this guide is about bands you buy, and Whoop is a band you rent. It runs on a membership: without an active subscription the device stops tracking, and the hardware arrives as part of that membership rather than as a purchase you own. That is not a criticism of the product, it is a different kind of decision, and it does not sit in the same table as a one-off purchase. Its terms and its pricing tiers vary by country and change often, so check them on Whoop's own site before you commit to anything.

If the idea of a minimal recovery-focused band appeals but the monthly fee does not, that already exists as a one-off purchase:

Amazfit Helio Strap, the alternative to Whoop with no subscription
The Whoop idea, without the subscription

Amazfit Helio Strap

A screenless band with round-the-clock activity, heart rate, sleep and recovery tracking, 10 claimed days of battery and more than 50 sports, Hyrox included. You buy it once and there are no fees. Less of a community and less mature algorithms than Whoop, and that is the trade, which is only fair to say out loud.

Your health data: the detail no other list looks at. A band records heart rate, sleep and in some cases the menstrual cycle, and every brand processes it in a different cloud (Xiaomi and Huawei on EU or Chinese servers depending on the service, Fitbit with Google, Garmin in the United States and the EU). That is not a reason to avoid them, it is a reason to set them up properly. Under UK GDPR, data concerning health is a special category whose processing is prohibited by default unless a specific condition applies. We go through it brand by brand in what your watch knows about your health, and who can buy it.

How we evaluated these

We have not worn these seven bands, so you will not find a sleep-accuracy figure measured by us. What we did: read the spec sheet each manufacturer publishes in the Amazon Spain catalogue that m8d tracks, which is part of Amazon's shared European catalogue, on 4 July 2026; put the claimed battery figures against the typical real-use figures reported in published reviews and by buyers, which is where the second table comes from and which is declared as an aggregate rather than a measurement; check sensor accuracy against published technical reviews (Xataka, a Spanish-language review, and Versus); and compare iPhone and Android compatibility along with the real cost of each ecosystem, subscriptions included. Where a figure is not stated by the manufacturer, we say so instead of filling it in. Model availability varies by country: the buttons take you to your local Amazon store so you can check yours. Affiliate links do not change the order.

From the same team: if you want a big screen and serious GPS, your guide is the best smartwatch of 2026. For training with maps and advanced metrics, budget sports watches. And for a smaller wrist and cycle tracking, the best smartwatch for women.

Frequently asked questions about fitness trackers

For most people, the Xiaomi Smart Band 10: a 60 Hz AMOLED screen, 150 sport modes, 5 ATM water resistance and an app with no subscription. If your priority is measuring sleep properly, the Huawei Band 11. At the very bottom of the ladder, the Smart Band 9 Active.
A band: weeks of battery, minimum size, and it is the cheapest way in, ideal for steps, sleep and heart rate. A smartwatch: big screen, stronger GPS, calls and apps, charging every one to three days and costing considerably more. For habits and daily health, a band; for training with maps or for how it looks, a watch. The 30-second test above settles it.
Trends yes, diagnoses no. Steps and resting heart rate are reliable; sleep stages and blood oxygen are estimates that vary by model, and in published comparisons Huawei tends to be sharper on sleep with Xiaomi a step behind. None of this replaces a medical test.
About half what the box says, in normal use with the always-on display and notifications running: a Smart Band 10 lands around 8 to 12 real days against its 21 claimed, and a Band 11 around 7 to 9 against its 14. That is still an order of magnitude more than any smartwatch. The full table is above, and those are figures reported by reviews and buyers, not measured by us.
Only if paying a recurring membership for a screenless band suits you: without an active subscription the device stops tracking, so you are renting rather than buying. For most people a band bought once, with no fees, covers the same ground in practice. If the screenless recovery-band idea is what appeals, the Amazfit Helio Strap is the one-off-purchase version.
For steps, heart rate and sleep, yes: they record on their own and sync afterwards. To record a route on a map they need your phone's GPS, except the Smart Band 10 Pro, which has built-in GNSS and records the route with no phone at all.

Technology analysis and verification

We are a technology analysis publication. What we do in every guide is contrast what a product promises with what can be verified, and publish the proof: the manufacturer's own spec sheet, the official rule where one exists, or the data from our own price registry. And what we do not do, said here and not in the small print: we have not worn these bands, so the real-use battery column is an aggregate of published reviews and reported buyer experience, declared as such, not a measurement of ours. Zero advertising and zero money from manufacturers: no manufacturer pays to appear in a guide or to rank first. Purchase links are affiliate links, disclosed on every block, and corrections are published with their date.
