Best WordPress hosting UK 2026: which plan to choose by what it costs in year two, VAT included, not by the launch price

SiteGround logo, the m8d pick among the six WordPress hosts sold in the UK

The best WordPress hosting in the UK for 2026 is SiteGround for a small business site with a London data centre, Krystal if the price must not change at renewal, and Kinsta once traffic grows. The figure that decides: of 16 plans read on 28 September 2026, 10 renew higher, and none of the six pricing pages includes VAT.

The line under the price

UK WordPress hosting prices exclude VAT: none of the six pricing pages shows it, and what 20% adds

Every WordPress hosting price you see on a UK pricing page is before VAT, and all six pages in this guide say so in their own words: SiteGround prints “Ex. VAT” on each plan card, Hostinger writes “Prices are listed without VAT”, IONOS writes “All prices exclude VAT charged at 20%”, Krystal shows its prices with an “Include VAT” switch turned off, Kinsta writes “Prices exclude tax and are in USD” and WP Engine warns that “Taxes and overages may apply during checkout”. So the price on the front of each of these pages is the price before VAT.

Whether that 20% is a cost depends on one question, and it is not whether you are a company. HMRC makes VAT registration compulsory once taxable turnover goes over £90,000 in twelve months, and voluntary below it. A new site, a sole trader or a small business under that line usually is not registered, so it pays the 20% on hosting and cannot reclaim it. A registered business reclaims it and should compare prices before VAT. That is why the calculator below asks the question instead of assuming the answer.

The £1.99 on the card and the £2.39 you pay: the VAT line sits under the price
The advertised price and the charged price are printed on the same plan card, a few lines apart. The large one is what comparisons sort by; the small ones are what reaches your bank statement.
What is advertised
SiteGround StartUp: “£1.99/mo.” in large type on the plan card, next to “SAVE 85%”, read on siteground.co.uk on 28 September 2026.
What the same card says underneath
“Renews at £13.99/mo. Prepaid for 12 months. Ex. VAT”. For a buyer who is not VAT-registered that is £2.39 in month one, £28.66 paid on day one for the first year, and £16.79 a month from month thirteen.
How we know
The three figures on the card are copied from the pricing page on 28 September 2026, and the 20% is the UK standard rate published by GOV.UK. Every sum on this page is a multiplication of those two published numbers.
The rule to take away
On a UK hosting page the price is before VAT: add 20% unless your business is VAT-registered, then look for the renewal line. It takes ten seconds on any of the six pages, and it changes the comparison more than any feature does.

Counted today

What WordPress hosting costs in the UK after the first year: 16 plans read on 28 September 2026

Hosting is not bought for what it costs today but for what it costs in two years, because a site that works does not move. So the question is not which plan is cheapest, but which is cheapest once the offer ends. To answer it we opened the UK pricing pages of six hosts, SiteGround, Krystal, Hostinger, IONOS, Kinsta and WP Engine, and noted five things for each of their 16 WordPress plans: the advertised price, the renewal price, the months you must commit to get it, whether VAT is included and whether email comes with it.

The launch price and the price you will pay are printed on the same card
Three of the six pages print both figures within a few lines of each other. The top one is what comparisons compare; the bottom one is what is charged from the month the offer ends.
What is advertised
The launch price, large and next to its discount. In today's census it runs from £1 a month (IONOS, for 12 months) to £7.99 (Hostinger Cloud Startup, for 48), and it is the number most comparisons are sorted by.
What the same page says a few lines down
The renewal. SiteGround: “Renews at £13.99/mo.” Hostinger: “Renews at £10.99/mo.” IONOS: “Then only £10/month”. In the 10 plans that print both, the second is between 1.67 and 10 times the first.
How we know
By opening the six UK pricing pages on 28 September 2026 and copying what each one says, with its link in the sources at the foot of the page. None of these figures is an estimate of ours: they are what each company publishes about its own product, which is the kind of evidence that cannot be argued with.
The rule to take away
The price that matters on a hosting plan is the year-two price. If the page does not show it, find it in the basket before you pay. It is the most profitable check in this purchase and it takes a minute: go as far as the payment step, without paying, and read the amount for the second period.

m8d rule: The price that matters on a hosting plan is the year-two price. If the page does not show it, find it in the basket before you pay.

The sum no comparison does

WordPress hosting cost calculator for the UK: the real three-year price

Comparing hosts by the price on the front compares one first year with another. The sum that decides has four parts, and no pricing page does it for you: the promotional months, the renewal months, the up-front payment the term demands and the 20% VAT that all six UK pricing pages leave out. m8d.io's calculator does it for the 16 plans read on 28 September 2026. Pick the plan you are looking at and you get the total, the real monthly cost and what leaves your account on day one. Example: SiteGround StartUp over three years, not VAT-registered, comes to £431.57. Free, no sign-up.

The price on the front is the first year. Pick the plan you are looking at and the calculator adds the promotional months, the renewal months, the payment the term demands up front and the 20% VAT if you cannot reclaim it. Free, no sign-up.

And it does not invent the price of renewing the domain, which your registrar sets and none of the six pricing pages shows: it tells you how long the plan's domain is free.

m8d verdict

We would choose it for a UK small business site that will live on WordPress for years, on one condition: that the renewal from month 13, which SiteGround prints on the same card, is already in the budget. For that money you get a London data centre, backups, email and free migration.

What you should know
  • Every plan card on siteground.co.uk prints the renewal under the launch price: “Renews at £13.99/mo. Prepaid for 12 months. Ex. VAT” on StartUp, read on 28 September 2026. It is the clearest of the six pages, and the jump is one of the steepest in the census: seven times the £1.99 on the front.
  • The same line says Ex. VAT. If your business is not VAT-registered, the first year is £28.66 paid on day one and every month from the thirteenth is £16.79. The calculator on this page does that sum for all three plans.
  • SiteGround lists London (UK) among its eleven data centre locations in its own knowledge base. For a site whose visitors are in Britain, that is the location to choose when you sign up.
  • Free domain, free email, free SSL, CDN and backups, free site migrations and managed updates on all three plans, according to the plan cards read on 28 September 2026. Staging starts on GrowBig, not on StartUp.
+Pros
  • The renewal is printed on the plan card, under the price
  • London data centre, listed in its own knowledge base
  • Email, backups, SSL and free site migration on every plan
  • 12 months prepaid, not 48
−Cons
  • From month 13 StartUp costs seven times the launch price: £13.99 a month before VAT
  • Prices are shown without VAT, so a buyer who is not VAT-registered pays 20% on top
  • The free domain is described as a limited-time offer and the page does not say for how long
See SiteGround's UK plans ›Free site migration, and 30 days to change your mind

The three hosts in the census without a card on this page. Krystal, a UK company registered in London, publishes one price per plan and bills monthly, from £7 a month before VAT on Amethyst; its own blog puts it as “The price you see is the price you pay – no hidden fees, no intro gimmicks”, and it gives 60 days to ask for your money back. If the renewal line is what worries you, we recommend looking at Krystal first: its plans include unlimited mailboxes, and its domain is free from Ruby upwards. IONOS has the widest gap in the census: its 50 GB plan is £1 a month for twelve months and then £10. And Hostinger is the cheapest over three years, on the condition explained in the next section.

Cheap over three years

The cheapest WordPress hosting in the UK over three years, and the 48-month catch

The cheapest plan in the census over three years is Hostinger Premium: £2.99 a month before VAT for 36 months is £107.64, less than a third of SiteGround StartUp's £359.64 over the same window. The condition is printed on the same card, and it is the one that changes the decision: “Get 48 months for £143.52”. What is advertised as a monthly price is a four-year payment made on the first day, £172.22 once VAT is added, and after those 48 months it renews at £10.99.

Below it, the three-year order is set by two things: how many months the launch price lasts and how far it jumps afterwards. IONOS's 25 GB plan, at £3 for six months and £5 after, comes to £168 over three years. Krystal Amethyst, with no offer at all, comes to £252, and that figure does not change on the day you renew. A plan whose offer lasts twelve months and then multiplies by seven spends 24 of its first 36 months at the higher price.

What leaves your account on day one: one month, 12 or 48
The term is written on every pricing page and no comparison adds it up. It does not change the monthly price; it changes how much you lend the host before the site has a single visitor.
The term: the price is monthly, the payment is not
The lowest price in the census is advertised per month and charged for 48: Hostinger writes the total, “Get 48 months for £143.52 (regular price £575.52)”. SiteGround asks for 12 months prepaid. At the other end, Krystal and Kinsta let you pay month by month.
The window to change your mind
Krystal gives 60 days with what it calls a “no-quibble money-back guarantee”. SiteGround, Hostinger and IONOS give 30, each on its own page. Kinsta's Launch plan starts with its first month free. Paying four years up front with a 30-day window is a different risk from paying monthly.
How we know
The totals and the guarantee periods are copied from each UK pricing page on 28 September 2026, and all six are linked at the foot of the page. It takes ten seconds to check: the total is on the line under each price.
The rule to take away
Multiply the advertised monthly price by the months of the term and add 20% if you are not VAT-registered. That is what leaves your account on day one. It is almost never the number you were comparing.

m8d rule: Multiply the advertised monthly price by the months of the term and add 20% if you are not VAT-registered: that is what leaves your account on day one.

Where the server sits

WordPress hosting with a UK data centre: which hosts offer London, and what WordPress.org asks of a host

Three of the six hosts name a UK location in their own documentation. SiteGround lists London (UK) among its eleven data centres, Kinsta lists “London, United Kingdom” among 30, and Krystal describes itself as a UK-based company with a UK-based data centre. The pricing pages of Hostinger, IONOS and WP Engine read on 28 September 2026 do not name a UK location, which does not mean they lack one: it means you should ask before you buy.

What a nearby server changes, in results rather than adjectives, is the time to first byte: how long the server takes to start answering, which is the part of loading a page a host is directly responsible for, because nothing else starts before it. Images, themes and plugins are yours, and no plan fixes them. For the rest there is a checklist that is not an opinion: WordPress.org recommends a host that supports “PHP version 8.3 or greater”, “MariaDB version 10.11 or greater OR MySQL version 8.0 or greater” and “HTTPS support”. Open the control panel of the host you are considering and check that it lets you pick those versions.

The other league, and its bill

Managed or shared WordPress hosting in the UK: who Kinsta and WP Engine are for

Four of the six hosts in this guide sell shared hosting: your site lives on a machine with others and you pay for space and resources. Kinsta and WP Engine sell managed hosting and size it in another unit, visits a month, with the platform, the backups and the staging environments included. Kinsta's Launch plan covers an estimated 75,000 visits a month and WP Engine's Essential 25,000, and both bill in US dollars before tax.

The practical border is not technical, it is traffic and staff. If your site gets a few hundred visits a day and you run it yourself, shared hosting does the job for a fraction of the price. If it gets tens of thousands and someone technical is behind it, managed hosting saves hours. What almost nobody says before you sign up is in the next block.

m8d verdict

Another league with another bill: you pay for visits, in dollars and without email, and the email part is written by Kinsta itself on its own blog. The one managed host here with a single price that does not change at renewal, for a site that already has traffic and someone technical looking after it.

What you should know
  • Its pricing page read on 28 September 2026 sells Launch at $35 a month, or $30 a month paid yearly ($350), for an estimated 75,000 visits a month. Its price does not jump at renewal: there is no launch price that expires, only a first month free, so year three costs what year one costs.
  • It bills in US dollars and writes: “Prices exclude tax and are in USD.” The calculator on this page shows the figure in the currency you are charged in and applies no exchange rate.
  • It does not host email, and it says so itself in an article updated on 5 January 2026: its resources go into the hosting platform and it recommends a specialised email provider. For a small business that is a second bill its pricing page does not price.
  • Its documentation lists London, United Kingdom among the 30 data centres you can choose from.
+Pros
  • One published price: year three costs the same as year one
  • Unlimited free migrations and 24/7 human support
  • London data centre among 30 locations
  • Sized by visits, the figure that actually overloads a site
−Cons
  • No email hosting: a second bill
  • Billed in US dollars, tax added at checkout
  • No domain included
  • Its entry plan costs more a year than three years of the cheapest shared plans in this guide

m8d verdict

A managed platform for a team with a developer, with staging environments and automated migration. It is the only one of the 16 plans read that advertises a first-year price without printing what it renews at, which is why its three-year sum stops after month 12.

What you should know
  • Its plans page read on 28 September 2026 starts Essential at $28.00 a month, billed annually ($336 on the day you sign up), for 1 site and 25,000 visits a month, and adds in the small print: “First year pricing and associated coupons are valid for new customers purchasing Essential plans only” and “Product renewal pricing subject to change”. The other 15 plans in the census either print their renewal or have only one price.
  • It does not host email either, and its own support says so: it does not provide name servers or mail servers, and it recommends a third-party email provider.
  • The same small print says that “Taxes and overages may apply during checkout”, and the page shows prices in US dollars.
+Pros
  • Developer tools and environments built for teams
  • Automated migration through its own plugin
  • Managed updates and security
−Cons
  • Does not publish its renewal price: its small print says it may change
  • No email hosting, according to its own support
  • Billed in US dollars, with taxes and overages at checkout
See WP Engine's plans ›Automated migration plugin included

Neither Kinsta nor WP Engine includes email, and they say so themselves. Kinsta explains it in its own article, updated on 5 January 2026: its resources go into the hosting platform, and it recommends a specialised email provider. WP Engine's support says it does not provide name servers or mail servers and advises the same. For a small business that is the opposite of what it expects, the domain's email coming with the hosting. The four shared hosts in this guide include mailboxes, Hostinger only for the first year.

The free domain's small print

What happens to your domain when you leave a UK host, and what the free domain covers

The free domain that comes with a hosting plan is free for a year
A domain is a separate product with its own renewal, even when it arrives free with a plan, and every page that offers it puts a limit on the free part.
What is advertised
“Free domain” on the plan cards of SiteGround, IONOS, Hostinger and Krystal, read on 28 September 2026.
What the same pages say
Hostinger writes “Domain - free for 1 year” and IONOS “Free domain for 1 year”. SiteGround presents it as a limited-time offer without saying for how long, and Krystal includes it from Ruby upwards but not on Amethyst. Kinsta and WP Engine include no domain, and none of the six WordPress pricing pages read prints what the included domain costs to renew.
How we know
The wording is copied from each UK pricing page on 28 September 2026, and every page is linked at the foot of this guide.
The rule to take away
A domain that comes free with hosting is free for the first year: check that it is registered in your name and put its renewal date in your calendar. It is the one bill in this purchase that none of the pricing pages shows.

m8d rule: A domain that comes free with hosting is free for the first year: check that it is registered in your name and put its renewal date in your calendar.

What that means in practice: if you cancel the hosting, the domain is still yours until its registration runs out, but only if it is registered in your name and you can log in to the account that manages it. Check both before you leave, move the domain or point it at the new host while the old account is still open, and put the domain's renewal date in your calendar, because it rarely matches the hosting's.

DNS, TTL and the refund window

How to move WordPress to a new UK host without losing your Google rankings

Changing host without changing domain is not the same as moving a site to new URLs, and Google documents the two separately: its guide to site moves without URL changes is the one that applies here. If the addresses stay the same there are no 301 redirects to make, and that is the good news: what moves is which machine the domain points at, not which pages exist.

The order that avoids a fright: copy the site to the new server and check it on the temporary address most hosts provide; lower the TTL of your DNS records a few hours before, so the change spreads quickly; change the records; and keep the old hosting running for a few days, because during propagation visitors will reach both. SiteGround lists free site migrations on all its plans and Kinsta unlimited free migrations, so before doing it by hand, ask for it.

And a tip that comes out of the census: Krystal's 60 days and the 30 days of SiteGround, Hostinger and IONOS are exactly the window to try the move without risk. It is the most profitable use of a money-back guarantee.

What people ask before signing up

WordPress hosting in the UK: the questions people ask

WordPress hosting in the UK: the questions people ask
Which UK hosting service is best for WordPress?

It depends on how long the site will live and who runs it. For a small business site, SiteGround: a London data centre, email, backups and free migration, with its renewal of £13.99 a month before VAT printed on the plan card. If the price must not change at renewal, Krystal publishes one price per plan and bills monthly. With tens of thousands of visits and someone technical behind the site, Kinsta, which does not include email.

How much does WordPress hosting cost in the UK?

Across the 16 plans read on 28 September 2026, the four shared hosts advertise from £1 to £37 a month, all before VAT, and 10 of the 16 plans cost more from the moment the offer ends. Three years of SiteGround StartUp come to £359.64 before VAT and £431.57 for a buyer who is not VAT-registered. The calculator on this page does the sum for each plan.

What is the cheapest UK hosting option?

Over three years, Hostinger Premium: £107.64 before VAT for 36 months. The catch is printed on its card: that price requires paying 48 months up front, £143.52 before VAT and £172.22 with it. Without a long commitment, IONOS's 25 GB plan comes to £168 over three years and Krystal Amethyst to £252, billed monthly and without a jump at renewal.

Is Hostinger good for the UK?

On price over three years it is the cheapest of the 16 plans read, and its pricing page states a 30-day money-back guarantee. The two things to know before paying are on the same card: the advertised price needs 48 months paid in one go, and the renewal is £10.99 a month on Premium. Its page lists prices without VAT, and its mailboxes and domain are free for the first year only.

Do UK hosting prices include VAT?

None of the six pricing pages read on 28 September 2026 includes it. SiteGround prints “Ex. VAT”, Hostinger “Prices are listed without VAT”, IONOS “All prices exclude VAT charged at 20%”, Krystal has an “Include VAT” switch that starts off, and Kinsta and WP Engine add tax at checkout. If your business is not VAT-registered, which is compulsory only above £90,000 of taxable turnover, add 20%.

Can I host my own website without paying?

For learning and trying things out, a free plan works. For a business, the problem is not speed but what is not yours: the domain and the email are the two things that move with you when you change provider, and free plans rarely include either. WordPress.org also recommends a host with HTTPS support. Every plan in this guide is paid, and we do not recommend a free one for a site that has to sell.

What happens to my domain if I cancel hosting?

It stays yours until its registration expires, provided it is registered in your name and you can log in to the account that manages it. The free domain that comes with a plan is free for the first year on Hostinger and IONOS, and none of the six pricing pages shows what it costs to renew. Move the domain or point it at the new host before closing the old account.

Does WordPress hosting include email?

On shared hosting, yes in this guide: SiteGround includes email, Krystal unlimited mailboxes, IONOS from one to ten addresses by plan, and Hostinger mailboxes free for the first year. On managed hosting, no: Kinsta and WP Engine both say in their own documentation that they do not host email and recommend a separate provider.

Do I need a UK data centre for a UK website?

It is not a legal requirement, but a nearby server shortens the time to first byte, the part of loading a page that depends on the host. SiteGround and Kinsta list London in their own documentation and Krystal describes a UK-based data centre. The pricing pages of Hostinger, IONOS and WP Engine read on 28 September 2026 do not name a UK location, so ask before you buy.

Can I change hosting without losing my Google rankings?

Yes, if the page addresses do not change. Google documents site moves without URL changes separately, and in that case there are no redirects to make: only the server your domain points at changes. Copy the site, check it on the new host's temporary address, lower the TTL of your DNS records a few hours before, switch them and keep the old hosting running for a few days.

How we assessed it
With the pricing pages open and counted, not with the brand names. (1) A census of the UK catalogue: the 16 WordPress hosting plans of six hosts sold in the UK, read on their own UK pricing pages on 28 September 2026, noting the advertised price, the renewal, where it is written, the months of commitment, the VAT treatment, the domain and the email. (2) Prices sold by the year are divided by twelve so they can be compared with monthly ones, and the calculator says so. (3) Quotes are literal and linked at the foot of the page: the VAT line of each page, the renewal wording and the small print of the one that does not publish it. (4) What we say about email and data centres comes from each host's own documentation, not from a comparison. (5) The technical requirements come from WordPress.org, not from any plan's sales page. (6) The order of the podium is set by the criteria: the year-two price, the commitment, a UK data centre and what each plan includes. Only one of the six hosts pays m8d when a UK reader signs up from this page, and the cheapest plan over three years is not that one. When a figure is not on the page, we say so instead of filling it in.

The one plan of 16 that cannot be priced over three years
m8d verdict
We would choose it for a UK small business site that will live on WordPress for years, on one condition: that the renewal from month 13, which SiteGround prints on the same card, is already in the budget. For that money you get a London data centre, backups, email and free migration.
Another league with another bill: you pay for visits, in dollars and without email, and the email part is written by Kinsta itself on its own blog. The one managed host here with a single price that does not change at renewal, for a site that already has traffic and someone technical looking after it.
A managed platform for a team with a developer, with staging environments and automated migration. It is the only one of the 16 plans read that advertises a first-year price without printing what it renews at, which is why its three-year sum stops after month 12.

Pros
  • The renewal is printed on the plan card, under the price
  • London data centre, listed in its own knowledge base
  • Email, backups, SSL and free site migration on every plan
  • 12 months prepaid, not 48
  • One published price: year three costs the same as year one
  • Unlimited free migrations and 24/7 human support
  • London data centre among 30 locations
  • Sized by visits, the figure that actually overloads a site
  • Developer tools and environments built for teams
  • Automated migration through its own plugin
  • Managed updates and security
Cons
  • From month 13 StartUp costs seven times the launch price: £13.99 a month before VAT
  • Prices are shown without VAT, so a buyer who is not VAT-registered pays 20% on top
  • The free domain is described as a limited-time offer and the page does not say for how long
  • No email hosting: a second bill
  • Billed in US dollars, tax added at checkout
  • No domain included
  • Its entry plan costs more a year than three years of the cheapest shared plans in this guide
  • Does not publish its renewal price: its small print says it may change
  • No email hosting, according to its own support
  • Billed in US dollars, with taxes and overages at checkout
