Best smartwatches for men in 2026: which to buy by case size in mm and strap width, with a wrist size calculator

The best smartwatch for men is chosen by two measurements, and generic listings rarely give both: the case size in millimetres and the strap width. For a 17 to 18 cm wrist (6.7 to 7.1 inches), that means a 44 to 47 mm case on a 22 mm strap. The screen size in inches tells you neither.
Smartwatch size calculator for men: the case size and strap width that fit your wrist
Smartwatch size calculator: the case and strap width for your wrist
Two numbers decide whether a watch gets worn or ends up in a drawer, and a generic listing rarely gives either: the case diameter and the strap width. This calculator works them out from your wrist, using the strap width each case size declares on the makers' spec sheets and the wrist range each strap covers. Set to a 17 to 18 cm wrist (6.7 to 7.1 inches) and a listing that only gives the screen in inches, it returns a 44 to 47 mm case on a 22 mm strap, and the warning that from that listing the watch's size cannot be known. Free, no account and no ads.
The strap width follows from the case: the 42 to 45 mm cases we read declare 20 mm (Garmin Vívoactive 5 and Amazfit Active 2, on their official spec sheets) and 46 mm cases and larger declare 22 mm (Amazfit Bip 6). It is the number you need to order a replacement strap, and none of the 103 watch names on two UK jewellers' first pages printed it.
The screen diagonal does not tell you how big the watch is, and two official spec sheets prove it: the Huawei Watch GT 5 declares 1.43 inches in a 45.8 mm case and the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 declares 1.5 inches in a 44.4 mm case. The one with the smaller screen is the bigger watch of the two. Look for the case size in millimetres on the maker's spec sheet before paying: it is almost always published, and the listing is where it gets lost.

How to measure your wrist: a sewing tape, or a strip of paper round the wrist bone and then a ruler. The case band by wrist size is a category guideline, not an industry standard: it helps you rule things out, not hit the millimetre. What does come from the makers is the strap width of each case and the wrist range each strap declares, taken from the official spec sheets of Amazfit, Xiaomi, Garmin, Huawei and Samsung, read between 3 and 23 September 2026.
Why a smartwatch's screen size in inches doesn't tell you how big the watch is
The screen diagonal and the width of the case are two different measurements, and on these four official spec sheets they run the wrong way round: sorted by the inches each one advertises, from smallest to largest, the case width falls from 45.8 to 38 millimetres. The watch that advertises 1.43 inches is wider than the one that advertises 1.5. What sits on your wrist is the case.
| Maker's official spec sheet | Screen it declares | Case it declares | Weight | Declared battery life | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1.43 inches | 45.8 x 45.8 x 10.7 mm | 48 g without strap | 14 days, 5 with the always-on display | View › | |
| 1.5 inches (37.3 mm) | 44.4 x 44.4 x 9.7 mm | 33.8 g | 40 h, 30 h with the always-on display | View › | |
| 1.97 inches | 46.3 x 40.2 x 10.45 mm | 27.9 g without strap | 14 days typical, 6 heavy, 32 h with GPS | View › | |

Official spec sheets of Huawei and Apple (UK sites, read on 23 September 2026) and of Samsung and Amazfit (read on 3 September 2026). Sorted by the screen diagonal each maker declares, from smallest to largest. The case column, in bold, runs the other way: the bigger the advertised screen, the narrower the watch that reaches your wrist.
A product name has room for about fifteen words, and what goes there is what sells. On a UK jeweller's shelf, what sells includes the case size: it is printed in the name. On generic marketplace listings it is the screen inches, the sports modes and the torch that fill the title, and the case disappears.
“1.95-inch HD curved screen”, “2.01-inch military”, “AMOLED 1.43”. In the count of 74 watch listings on Amazon Spain on 3 September 2026, the catalogue this guide is built from, 16 of the 23 generic listings led with the screen diagonal and none gave the case size. None of the 74 gave the strap width.
On their official spec sheets, Huawei Watch GT 5 46 mm view › declares 1.43 inches in a 45.8 mm wide case and Samsung Galaxy Watch7 44 mm view › declares 1.5 inches in a 44.4 mm case: the one with the smaller screen is the bigger watch. And Amazfit Bip 6 view ›, with the largest screen of the four, is 40.2 mm wide. The diagonal depends on the bezel, and the bezel changes with every model.
m8d rule: If a watch is sold on the inches of its screen, you do not know how big it is. Find the case size in millimetres on the maker's spec sheet: the diagonal and the width do not run in the same order.
Where the case size gets printed: 102 of 103 watch names on two UK jewellers' pages
The size is not a secret the watch industry keeps: on the shelves of UK jewellers it is part of the name. On 23 September 2026 we read the first page of the men's smartwatch ranges of Beaverbrooks and Watcho, two of the retailers on page one of Google for smartwatch for men in the UK. Of 103 watch names, 102 carry the case size in millimetres. The brands on those shelves, Garmin, TAG Heuer and Tissot among them, publish it.
The gap opens elsewhere: on generic marketplace listings, where the title is written to sell a screen. That is where this guide's calculator earns its place, and why the listing you are looking at is the second input it asks for.
Is a 44 mm smartwatch too big for a man? Why 44 mm can mean 38 mm across
“44 mm” does not always measure the same thing. On a round or square case it is the width, and it is what sits across your wrist: the Huawei Watch GT 5 46 mm view › is 45.8 by 45.8 mm and the Samsung Galaxy Watch7 44 mm view › 44.4 by 44.4 mm. On a rectangular case it can be the height. Apple's UK spec sheet for the Apple Watch SE 3 44 mm view › 44 mm gives a height of 44 mm and a width of 38 mm, 6.4 mm narrower than the Samsung with the same number on the box.
So, for a man, 44 mm is not too big in itself: on a 16 to 18 cm wrist (6.3 to 7.1 inches) a 44 mm round case sits inside the band, and a 44 mm rectangular one wears like a small watch. What decides is the width on your wrist, which is why the calculator above asks for your wrist and not for a number on the box.
Our advice for a rectangular watch: read the height and the width on the maker's spec sheet, and compare the width, not the headline number, with the band the calculator gives you.

Amazfit Bip 6 view ›
Its maker publishes the case diameter, the strap width, the wrist range and four battery scenarios at the same time, which is rarer than it should be. At 46.3 mm long and 40.2 mm wide it is a man's case that stays under 28 grams.
- Its official spec sheet declares 46.3 x 40.2 x 10.45 mm and 27.9 g without the strap: the lightest of the four whose sheets we compare, twenty grams below the Watch GT 5. Twenty grams on the wrist is the difference between sleeping with it on or taking it off.
- The strap is 22 mm and covers wrists of 130 to 195 mm (5.1 to 7.7 inches), according to Amazfit. If your wrist is over 19.5 cm you will be on the last hole, and a replacement strap makes more sense than a return.
- Amazfit publishes four battery figures for the same watch: 26 days in battery saver, 14 in typical use, 6 in heavy use and 32 hours with continuous GPS. The one on the box is typical use.
- 5 ATM and declared compatibility with Android 7.0 and iOS 14.0 and later, so it does not tie you to a phone brand.
- Publishes case, strap, weight and wrist range, which almost nobody does
- 27.9 g without strap: one of the few you can sleep in
- Four declared battery scenarios, not one loose figure
- GPS with maps and 5 ATM
- The 40.2 mm wide case looks small above a 19 cm wrist
- The silicone strap stops at 195 mm
- No contactless payment, which the watches further up have

Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Lite view ›
The entry step with a spec sheet that does exist: Xiaomi publishes the 29.2 g and the 135 to 205 mm wrist range. It is the one that covers the widest wrists in the whole selection.
- Xiaomi declares 29.2 g without strap and a TPU strap for wrists of 135 to 205 mm (5.3 to 8.1 inches): the widest range we read, ten millimetres beyond the Bip 6. If your wrist is over 20 cm, this one closes where others do not.
- It is the watch in this guide for the widest wrists, and its case size and weight are on Xiaomi's own spec sheet.
- 470 mAh and 18 days of normal use declared. That is a battery life at the top of the range, and the trade-off is what it leaves out: no built-in GPS, so the route comes from the phone.
- Compatible with Android 8.0 and iOS 12.0 and later according to Xiaomi, so it works with an iPhone even if that is not its home ground.
- The widest wrist range in the selection, up to 205 mm
- 18 days declared on 470 mAh
- A 1.96-inch AMOLED screen
- No built-in GPS: it relies on the phone to record a route
- No contactless payment and no speaker for long calls

Amazfit Bip MAX view ›
The only one in the selection with 50 millimetres stated up front, which is the band for a 19 to 20 cm wrist, 7.5 to 7.9 inches. It also has the biggest screen of all, and for once the two go together.
- Its listing gives the 50 mm case and the 2.07-inch screen side by side, which is what a listing should give: both measurements, not one.
- With that case the strap it takes is 22 mm, the same as the Bip 6, so replacement straps fit both.
- Up to 20 days declared, GPS with maps and 4 GB for music. On a wrist under 17 cm a 50 mm case overhangs and ends up turning.
- It is the logical step up from the Bip 6 if your wrist is over 19 cm: same family, same strap, a larger case.
- The 50 mm is stated up front, no searching needed
- The largest screen in the selection
- Shares the 22 mm strap with the Bip 6
- GPS with maps and storage for music
- Fifty millimetres is too much below a 17 cm wrist
- More case means more weight on the arm all day
- Not the one if you want it discreet under a shirt cuff

Amazfit Active 3 Premium view ›
Forty-five millimetres of case with a 1.32-inch screen: the smallest screen in the selection on one of its larger watches. It is the classic round model, with sapphire and offline maps, for someone who wants it to look like a watch and not like a screen.
- A 45 mm case with a 1.32-inch screen, against the 46.3 mm and 1.97 inches of the Bip 6. A millimetre and a half less watch and more than half an inch less screen: the diagonal and the case do not move together.
- The wide bezel and the sapphire glass are what you pay for here: sapphire is what stops the face scratching against a door frame.
- 12 days declared, NFC and offline maps. With downloaded maps you do not need the phone to know where you are.
- The round shape with a bezel is the one that stands out least with a shirt, which is exactly what a large rectangular case cannot manage.
- Sapphire glass as standard, which survives daily knocks
- Offline maps and contactless payment
- A round shape that goes unnoticed with a shirt
- The 45 mm is declared up front
- The smallest screen in the selection
- A wide bezel: more watch and less screen than the Bip 6

Huawei Watch GT 5 46 mm view ›
The one that looks most like a watch in the whole selection, with a stainless-steel front, and by some distance the heaviest: about 48 grams without the strap, twenty more than the Bip 6. That is the price of looking expensive on the wrist.
- Huawei's UK spec sheet declares 45.8 x 45.8 x 10.7 mm and a 1.43-inch screen. The Galaxy Watch7 declares 1.5 inches and measures 44.4: the one with the smaller screen is the bigger watch, and this pair is the proof.
- About 48 g without the strap, because of its stainless-steel front. You notice it on the arm by the end of the day, and it is why many people do not sleep in it.
- Huawei publishes three battery figures for the same watch: 14 days at maximum usage, 9 at regular usage and 5 with the always-on display. That option is the first thing almost everyone turns on, and it decides how many times a month you visit the charger.
- A 22 mm strap and declared compatibility with Android 9.0 and iOS 13.0 and later. With an iPhone it loses some interactive notifications.
- A stainless-steel front: it looks expensive from a distance
- A 45.8 mm case that suits 17 to 19 cm wrists
- Huawei publishes the cost of the always-on display
- 5 ATM and IP69K declared
- About 48 g without strap: the heaviest in the selection
- With the always-on display Huawei declares 5 days, not 14
- With an iPhone the notifications are only half there

Garmin Vívoactive 5 view ›
The one with the easiest strap to change: Garmin's manual declares standard 20 mm quick-release bands, so any watch strap fits. For a wrist under 17 cm, 6.7 inches, it is the pick that suits the band instead of overhanging it.
- Garmin's owner's manual says the watch is compatible with 20 mm wide, standard, quick-release bands. Standard means any watch strap fits, not only the brand's own, and quick-release means no tools.
- Up to 11 days in smartwatch mode and 5 ATM for swimming, according to the same manual, with its own GPS. Eleven days with built-in GPS is the range where the charger stops mattering during the week.
- Its 20 mm strap puts it in the 42 to 45 mm case band, the one for a 16 to 17 cm wrist and below. Above 18 cm the strap starts to look narrow.
- It is the pick for slimmer wrists, from the brand that makes 94 of the 103 watches on the first pages of the two UK jewellers' men's ranges we counted on 23 September 2026.
- A standard 20 mm strap: any watch strap fits
- Its own GPS with up to 11 days declared
- Garmin's training data without paying for the top range
- No contactless payment in this version
- The 20 mm strap looks narrow above an 18 cm wrist
How much battery a smartwatch loses with the always-on display switched on
The number of days on the box belongs to one particular scenario, and the makers that publish a spec sheet say which. The option most people switch on as soon as the watch comes off the charger, the always-on display, is also the one that costs the most. These are the figures each maker publishes for its own watch.
Put into daily life: a watch with a full operating system goes on the charger every night, and one of the 14-day watches goes on it when you remember. Huawei publishes three figures for the same watch, Huawei Watch GT 5 46 mm view ›: 14 days, 9 and 5 with the always-on display. Samsung does the same with Samsung Galaxy Watch7 44 mm view ›: 40 hours, and 30 with that option on. It is an option, and it has a cost.
Can a smartwatch measure blood pressure or an ECG? What Samsung's UK support page asks first
Blood pressure and electrocardiograms are what cheap smartwatch listings put in the title, and they are also what UK buyers ask Google about before choosing: whether a watch can track blood pressure, and whether the reading is accurate. The useful way to read those claims is not to argue about the sensor, but to look at what the maker that does offer the feature in the UK publishes next to it.
Samsung is the maker that has taken these features furthest, and its own UK support page sets out the conditions. They are not small print: they are what separates a usable reading from a pretty graph.
“Men's smartwatch with ECG, HRV, micro check-up and blood pressure”. In the Amazon Spain count of 3 September 2026, three of the 23 generic listings put an electrocardiogram in the title, one of them with blood pressure. None said in that title which phone it works with, who it is not for or what certification it has.
Samsung's UK support page for its Galaxy Watch view › says the ECG feature is only available on Samsung Galaxy products with Android 9.0 or later, that it is not intended for users under 22 years of age or with known arrhythmias other than atrial fibrillation, and that the information is not intended to diagnose, cure, mitigate, treat or prevent diseases. For blood pressure, a cuff-based monitor is required to complete the calibration, and re-calibration is required after 28 days. Read on 23 September 2026.
m8d rule: A usable heart or blood-pressure reading comes with its conditions written next to it: which phone it needs, who it is not for, what it is not, and for blood pressure a cuff to calibrate it every 28 days. If the listing gives none of them, what it sells is a graph.
The practical consequences, which save a disappointment: if you buy a Samsung Galaxy Watch7 44 mm view › for the ECG and carry a phone from another brand, that feature does not switch on. And the British Heart Foundation, which only sells blood-pressure monitors approved by the British and Irish Hypertension Society or STRIDE BP, notes that upper-arm monitors are easier to use correctly and are preferred by doctors: the cuff is still the reference the watch is calibrated against.
Smartwatch strap width, 20 or 22 mm, and the strap length that decides the fit
The strap width follows from the case: the 42 to 45 mm cases we read declare 20 mm and those of 46 mm and larger declare 22 mm. With that number, any standard watch strap fits, and a leather one completely changes how the same watch reads with a shirt. The exception is Apple, which does not use millimetres but its own strap sizes.
The second number is the length: the wrist range the strap covers. The silicone strap of the Amazfit Bip 6 covers 130 to 195 mm (5.1 to 7.7 inches) and the TPU strap of the Redmi Watch 5 Lite reaches 205 mm (8.1 inches), so from about 19.5 cm of wrist some standard straps end up on the last hole.

The piece that turns a sports watch into a dress watch without changing watch. Twenty-two millimetres is the width for 46 mm cases, and it is the number the calculator above returns.
View ›Questions people ask before choosing a smartwatch for men
What is the best smartwatch for men?›
The one that fits your wrist and comes with a full spec sheet. Our pick is the Amazfit Bip 6: its maker publishes the case diameter, the strap width, the wrist range and four battery scenarios at once. At 46.3 by 40.2 millimetres and 27.9 grams it sits in the band for a 17 to 18 cm wrist, about 7 inches.
If my wrist is 7 inches, what size smartwatch should I get?›
Seven inches is 17.8 cm, which puts you in the 17 to 18 cm band: a case of 44 to 47 mm and a 22 mm strap. At 7.5 inches, about 19 cm, the band moves to 45 to 48 mm, and above 7.7 inches check the wrist range of the strap as well, because some standard straps stop at 195 mm.
Is a 44 mm watch too big for a man?›
Not in itself: a 44 mm round case sits inside the band for a 16 to 18 cm wrist. Check what the 44 measures, though. On Apple's UK spec sheet the SE 3 44 mm is 44 mm high but 38 mm wide, so it wears smaller than a 44.4 mm round watch such as the Galaxy Watch7.
Do smartwatches track blood pressure?›
Some do, with conditions. Samsung's UK support page says its Galaxy Watch needs a cuff-based blood pressure monitor to calibrate, needs re-calibrating after 28 days and is not a medical device. The British Heart Foundation sells only monitors approved by the British and Irish Hypertension Society or STRIDE BP, and notes that upper-arm monitors are preferred by doctors.
Can I use a smartwatch that isn't an Apple Watch with an iPhone?›
Yes, with some features missing. Amazfit declares compatibility with iOS 14 and later and Huawei with iOS 13 and later, and in both cases notifications arrive even if you cannot reply from the watch as you can on Android. The other way round does not work: Apple's UK spec sheet says the Apple Watch SE 3 needs an iPhone 11 or later with iOS 27 or later.
What does 5 ATM mean, and can I swim with it?›
Huawei's UK spec sheet explains it: 5 ATM under the ISO 22810:2010 standard means the watch withstands the static pressure of 50 metres of water for 10 minutes, not that it can go 50 metres deep. In real use it is fine for showering and for swimming in a pool, not for diving. An IP68 rating is a different thing and does not cover swimming.
What strap width does a 46 mm smartwatch take?›
22 mm is what 46 mm and larger cases declare on the spec sheets we read, and 20 mm is what 42 to 45 mm cases declare. Check the length too: the wrist range printed for the strap is a different number from its width, and it decides whether the buckle closes.
The starting point is the whole catalogue, not a list of new releases. The watches come from the catalogue m8d tracks every day on Amazon Spain, part of Amazon's shared European catalogue: on 3 September 2026 we counted 74 distinct watch listings there and noted what each one declares in the title it is sold with, the text a buyer reads. For the UK, on 23 September 2026 we read the first page of the men's smartwatch ranges of two UK jewellers that rank for smartwatch for men and counted the names that print the case size.
Every measurement in this guide then comes from the maker's official spec sheet, with its reading date: case size, weight, strap width, the wrist range of each strap, the battery scenarios and the conditions of the ECG and blood-pressure features. Nothing gets in for being on offer. Availability varies by country: the buttons take you to Amazon's store for yours, so check the listing there before you pay.
If you keep one sentence: buy by the case size in millimetres, not by the screen in inches. With a 17 to 18 cm wrist, about 7 inches, the band is 44 to 47 mm with a 22 mm strap, and we'd start with the Amazfit Bip 6 view ›, whose maker publishes both numbers and which stays under 28 grams. The Huawei Watch GT 5 46 mm view › is the one that looks most like a watch, and the heaviest. And below 17 cm the Garmin Vívoactive 5 view ›, on standard 20 mm straps, is the one that suits a slimmer wrist.
Each measurement on this page comes from one of these pages, with the date we read it.
